Prince George, B.C. - The body discovered in LC Gunn Park on the eastern edge of the city has been confirmed as that of 35-year-old Cynthia Frances Maas.
And the RCMP's North District Senior Media Relations Officer, Corporal Dan Moskaluk, says investigators are classifying the Prince George woman's death as a homicide.
He says, "The human remains found last Friday by the Prince George RCMP, on October 8th, have been identified as that of Cynthia Maas, by way of fingerprint examination and comparison."
Corporal Moskaluk says the investigation into the murder of Maas continues and is led by the Prince George GIS section, with a team of between 30 and 40 investigators assigned.
Maas (shown in photo at right) was reported missing by her friends on September 23rd, although the last time she was seen was back on September 10th in the area of Juniper Street and 19th Avenue. The woman was known to have lived a high-risk lifestyle, but kept in regular contact with family and friends.
Moskaluk says investigators met in-person with the Maas family -- who reside outside of Prince George -- yesterday to convey the news and to offer sincere condolences for their loss.
"The sole and most important fact that has been established is that Cynthia Maas is a victim," says the corporal. "Our duty and responsibility is to bring to justice, whomever is responsible for her death."
"We do want the general public to remain vigilant, in particular, our more vulnerable citizens."
RCMP issued a plea to help locate Maas on October 1st, one day after putting out a similar call to help locate 23-year-old Natasha Lynn Montgomery, who wasn't been seen since August, when she was spotted in the vicinity of Queensway Street. Montgomery remains missing.
