School District 57 will sell the former North Nechako Elementary School for $510-thousand dollars, pending final approval from the Ministry of Education.
School Board Trustees unanimously endorsed the property disposition bylaw. The prospective buyers are planning to establish a Chinese Medicine Centre in the facility.
North Nechako was included in the first seven schools closed in the spring of 2002 when the board was facing its first year of a multi-million dollar budget shortfall. Seven more schools were closed the following spring.
Several have since been sold including: Haldi Road, Wildwood, Hart Highway, and Seymour. Blackburn Junior was demolished. And still others are being leased: Lakewood Junior, South Fort George, and Meadow.
Interestingly enough, in a "Surplus School Properties" spreadsheet presented to school board trustees back in April of 2004, KGV was listed as a facility that should be sold.
