While at Priince George City Council to present a cheque to Council inits first payment on the loan from the City, the evening was a time to brag about the success of the 98th running of the exhibition.
It was a presentation full of numbers:
-
44 thousand people through the gates
-
12,500 volunteers
-
346 penning teams
-
300 head of cattle
- 50 bulls (for thebull rideing competition
- more than 80 firefighters for the firefighter games
-
five days of sunshine,
all adding up to one very successful event.
Planning for the 2011 version of the PGX is already underway. Manager Terri McConnachie asked that Council keep the PGX in mind during the budget deliberations.
Councillor Dave Wilbur said he was proud of the enthusiasm and the fact the PGX had met its financial challenges "You met your challenges and exceeded our expectations."
The PGX had borrowed $45 thousand dollars from the City to offset the impact of a financial crunch created by the payout of a lawsuit. Tonight, the PGX delivered a cheque in the amount of $9,000, the first of five payments over five years.
But there is no guarantee the financial challenges are over. McConnachie says they won't know where they are financially until all the grant decisions have been made. They will be applying for a grant from the City as well as from other funding pots.
