Prince Rupert, B.C. – It’s an event to help prevent the sexual exploitation of young people in the Northwest.
Out of the Shadows is a two-day presentation in Prince Rupert November 3rd and 4th which will tackle the growing concern over youth sexual exploitation, internet luring, and human trafficking.
The first day will see local youth attend a dramatic presentation at the Lester Centre. Children in grades 6-12 will watch the Children of the Street Society act out skits on how kids and youth get lured into the sex trade industry.
The following day, the drama group will put on a special presentation for hotel owners and staff at the Crest Hotel to assist those in the industry so that they can recognize signs of youth exploitation and human trafficking that may be occurring in their businesses.
A by-donation seminar for all professionals, care givers and the general public will follow at the Crest Hotel. The day will feature a wide range of speakers who will be discussing issues around sexual abuse, human trafficking, and internet luring. Registration will be from 9:15 - 9:55 a.m.
Out of the Shadows is being presented by the Prince Rupert Human Trafficking Committee, School District #52, and other local organizations like the local RCMP.
Constable Erin Stevenson says the more people become aware of youth exploitation, the better able they are to report suspicious activity to police and help keep their community safe.
