Prince George, B.C. -  A long-time supporter of health-care programs at UNBC has stepped forward to, once again, inject financial assistance...

Over the past 15-years, Spectra Energy has donated close to $1-million dollars to support the university's Northern Medical Programs Trust, the building of the Health Sciences Centre, and scholarships and awards for students.  This time, the company is helping some northern communities fulfill financial pledges made to the NMPT fund.

Spectra has announced its contributing $90-thousand dollars to the NMP Trust, an endowment fund that provides financial support to students enrolled in health professions, especially those who undertake rural placements as part of their education.

When the fund was established in 2003, communities across the North pledged to contribute, based on their population.  Spectra's donation will go towards offsetting outstanding community pledges in 100 Mile House, Williams Lake, Quesnel, Chetwynd, Taylor, Fort St. John, and the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality.

The Trust currently has nearly 30 member municipalities and regional districts...just over one dozen have completed their pledges.

Thank you Spectra, your donation is well respected in our community.

See, there are benefits to pipelines!
A fine example of an existing pipeline company enhancing our community. Can't wait for Enbridge to setup shop!
Spectra builds and operates natural gas transmission infrastructure. Quite a difference from oil, especially oil that comes from the oilsands and gets transported along the coast of BC.

Just because the two products go overland through a steel pipe does not mean they pose the same risk.
I do believe it is more than just natural gas, or did they sell that to Pembina years ago, you know the one 4 hrs after they sold it, it leaked into the Pine River. "Westcoast Transmission" for the old timers.

I am pretty sure spectra moves oil as well, predominantly gas in the area, but I am pretty sure they move Oil.
Pounding money into training does not put more staff to work in our hospital. Gordon Campbell and his cutbacks to staff is the culprit. Spectra has been a good citizen for it's donations but alas: it does nothing to speed up ER or supply more beds. Lets put the blame where it belongs: Victoria. Before the Liberals it was the NDP. Stop voting for these corrupt self-centered people who don't give a damn about any of us. Paul Ramsay played musical chairs in the caucus to avoid being accountable for anything. Shirley Bond is doing it now. I'm not certain but I think Lois Boone had a few different portfolios as well.
I am going by their web site. Putting "oil" into their search function does not show up anything they do with oil other than competing with oil.
