Prince George, B.C.- For Jay Hill, today is the first day in a long time that he is not the M.P. for Prince George – Peace River. His last day on Parliament Hill was yesterday, but the Federal New Democrats want to take advantage of his absence.
The Federal NDP has called upon the Stephen Harper Government to hold a by-election as soon as possible.
There are six candidates in the running for the Conservative nomination in the riding, and while the Party tries to decide who will get the nod to run in the riding, the Federal NDP have launched a national ad campaign.
The campaign hopes to make the tax on home heating a key election issue, and is hitching its election hopes on the anti-HST wagon.
NDP deputy leader Libby Davies has raised the issue in the House of Commons asking “will the government agree to implement our practical plan and take the federal sales tax off home heating?” She says the Harper government has made life more expensive for residents of B.C. by imposing the "Harper-Campbell HST".
Davies is urging Prime Minister Harper to call the by-election in Prince George-Peace River promptly, so an election can take place this year before the Christmas season is in full swing.
