Prince George, B.C. -  The CEO of the Canada Games Council, Sue Hylland, says the strength of the Prince George bid for the 2015 Winter Games lies in the people and the broad approach to the Games. “The bid recognized Prince Goerge is part of something bigger”  she says the bid saw the Games as a positive for not only the city of Prince George, but for Northern B.C. as a region, the Province and the Country.

Hylland is here with other members of the Canada Games Council to brief the bid committee on the next steps which will take the bid committee to the development of a Host Society, “You will have to move from a group of one or two people to eventually building out to 6 or 7 thousand.” She says a three step approach will see the development of the Host Society which will develop policy, then expansion to a group of about 200 key planners, and finally, recruitment of an army of  volunteers.  “You have 4 ½ years to build to a group of 6 to 7 thousand people.”
She says the community engagement and support for the bid were also key factors in Prince George’s successful bid, but says some details will need work “For example, the village (athletes) we will need to see how the athletes move safely from where they are staying to the place where they will   be served all their meals. There are a number of areas that need work, but nothing that is major.”

You think maybe they should have thought of this before they so kindly volunteered us all?
I was not for this, am still not for this, as I know my pocket book is about to be picked again...
If these few could afford it then it would be fine...
??? who says they did not think of the "this" that you might be referring to?

A project goes through stages. It starts with an overview and ends up with the details of how much Lois Boone's coffee is going to cost. :-)
yeah Prince George. I support this, why because for every dollar we cough up the feds and the province cough up 4 bucks. Meaning we get a lot of infrastructure at 20 cents on the dollar. Plus employ a lot of workers in construction and other service industries.... Its a no brainer from this red neck.
I agree 110% "He Spoke", only good can come from this and PG will only be way, way better for it. I'm ecstatic that we got the games, finally the north is being recogized! FINALLY!

Oh great and it will create a lot of $8.00 an hour jobs and its a no brainer alright to think that we are getting all this money for .20 cents on the dollar. And who id putting up the other .80 cents on the dollar. It ALL TAXPAYERS DOLLARS.

Its all about the elites having a good time on the taxpayers dime.
Cheers
We already have most of the infrastructure so there wont be that much money thrown around.

If we want to say that the North is being recognized then we should remember that the 2007 Winter Games were held in Whitehorse Yukon, and the 1995 games were held in Grande Prairie Ab. Both Citys further north than Prince George. In 2023 they will be held in the Northwest Territories, 2027 the Yukon again, is that far enough North for you shesmiles?? Summer Games 2033 will be held in Nunavut.

If there is one good thing about these games it is that they are not slated to come back to BC until sometime after 2035, so thank God we will only have to go through this once.
How about having the people who made "our" bid for the games pony up the money for them before volunteering our tax dollars. And maybe they could also finance 6000 or 7000 paid jobs rather than call on citizens to work for their "games" without pay?
I do not like the idea of my house taxes being increased 6% for this for four years after we just has 4 years of 3% or more increases. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP! I did not want these games so why should my HOME be held hostage for this? Will the city lower the taxes after the fours years? Hardly. This is highway robery and for what? To spend spend spend some more on things other than doctors, roads, seniors, poor, schools ....etc etc

This city council has done absolutely nothing but increase house taxes and spend since they sucked us in to voting for them. ENOUGH!
