Prince George, B.C.- RCMP are investigating a theft which has had a major impact on the community radio station of 93.1 CFISFM.
Last night, as members of the Community Radio Station Society were attending the Annual General Meeting in a room at Studio 2880,  the same building which houses the  radio station, someone entered the station and stole the mainfame computer.
“Whoever stole it, walked past several other, newer computers to get at this one” says J.D. Boutillier, one of the members of the station’s Board of Directors.
The computer contained thousands of songs, interviews, production elements, public service announcements. It will take hundreds of hours of work to restore the stolen materials.
“It feels like a personal attack” says Boutillier who adds this particular computer was more difficult to get at, and more difficult to remove.
The computer was pulled from service just before 8 on Thursday night, throwing the station off the air. The theft was noted, and the station put back on the air by about 8:15.

Some knew what they were taking.
Well sounds like they have a fantastic security system there. Every bussiness I know has some form of security. I would have thought they would have video securtiy inside that place after what happened at CKPG tv a few years ago when a armed man entered the place with a gun, all over a hockey game....who knows maybe we will get another radio station now.
I would think that since 93.1 CFIS FM is a not-for-profit society that funds are pretty tight there. I for one don't think we need "another radio station". 93.1 does a great job with what they have, we have a country station, a rock station, a pop station, CBC and a crap station (94X). That's enough for me.
So what was it on that particular computer they wanted?
Obviously they knew which one to grab, and it must have been worth the risk involved to get it?
So is it not safe to assume it was someone who knew the layout and where that particular computer was located?
Bizarre.
If you think things are bad now, wait until the big crash in our economy occurs as a result of the consumers, governments, and businesses in this country spending way more than they've earned (thanks to our fiat monetary system) for the last 40 years.
This station is run by volunteers and donations from people who like their format. At least they don't have their hands out for the city and we, the tax payers, to pay for it. (For example the Live theaters and those who want a performing center.)( I think a performing center would be great, if those venues we have were being used to the max, and I don't think they are, and there was some way to pay for it besides out of my pocket.)
I think they, 93.1 CFIS FM, does a pretty fair job too.
I am surprised that they didn't have that computer backed up , just in case!
Charles ... one track mind? What does this have to do with the community radio station?

Did you notice the weather lately? If you think this is bad, wait till we get some snow.
I agree with Andyfreeze. "They knew which one to grab". Gather the local community radio station volunteers, plus other Studio 2880 volunteers, and find out who either had an interest in the mainframe, or who had an issue with the local station. As crimes go, this sounds personal and solveable.
That's really sad. It is a great radio station. Someone knew exactly what they were looking for and also knew when people would be distracted. I certainly hope they are found and the computer returned intact. Maybe someone feels like they've had their toes stepped on somehow??? Makes you wonder.
The thief was probable an ex-employee who was only collecting his money's worth after being paid 8 bucks an hour for the majority of his life! LOL!
does anyone actually listen to this candy -ss station anyways?
Some one from the inside obviously... probably wanted the programming to start their own station later. A $100 video camera would have done the trick... unless they would have known about that as well... lets hope they are soon caught.
Good radio station.
I agree DPJ.. but if you aren't into older rock then it may not be your thing.
And being as they are volunteers, not paid employees, I don't expect the professional commentators either.. they go a good job though.
" after what happened at CKPG tv a few years ago when a armed man entered the place with a gun, all over a hockey game...."

Forty years ago. Brian "Spinner" Spencer, a young man from Fort St. James had made the 'Leafs. When his father Roy learned that the game in which Brian was to interviewed beteen periods was not going to be broadcast in the PG area, he was so enraged that he drove to PG from the Fort, and held CKPG employees at gun point, trying to force them to show the game.
Unfortunately, he chose to shoot it out with the cops and they nailed him.
Not exactly current events.

I'm sorry, you seem to be confusing 93.1 with 94X which has been slipping in the ratings for close to a year now. 93.1 has had more and more listeners for a while.
