Two kids and a pumpkin at Blackspruce Farms

Prince George, B.C. -  While our climate makes visiting a real area pumpkin patch impossible, that hasn't stopped Blackspruce Farms from offering the opportunity right up until Hallowe'en.

For the second year in a row, Blackspruce owner, Brent Miese, has imported a large batch of pumpkins to build a patch on his farm, just south of Prince George.

From 11am until 4pm, pumpkin pickers can stop by and select their future jack o' lantern from the grounds at 7550 Bendixon Road, which is off of the Old Cariboo Highway, south of Prince George.

Meise says last year he brought in two large crates of pumpkins and, this year, he's up to five.

The cost of admission to the pumpkin patch and barnyard, with numerous furry friends to pet, is $5.00 per person or $20.00 for a family of five, with the little people getting to take home pumpkins.

Meise says Blackspruce officially opened last June and offers educational farm tours that include goat milking, egg collecting, butter-making, and honey extracting.  He expects those tours to really take off in the spring.

In the meantime, with the 'white stuff' fast approaching, the farm will offer snowshoeing tours for schools and other interested groups.  Anyone looking for more information can check out the Blackspruce Farms website.

Who would have ever thought that people would pay to try the things that I had to do as daily chores when I was young!
Good for Brent, I just wish I knew what to do with the insides of the Pumpkin,as it is very good for us and you can use it instead of oil. Any ideas ??
roast the seeds and make a bunch of punkin pies with the slimey stuff. Invite me over for pie and ice cream.
