Police In Armed Stand Off Near Terrace

Terrace -   RCMP officers from the Terrace Detachment along with members of the RCMP North District Emergency Response Team are currently attempting to arrest a 30 yr old Terrace man in regards to a criminal investigation, which has unfolded over the course of the last week in Terrace.

"The risk assessment conducted during the investigation has concluded that the man has access to firearms and is currently in his residence on a rural property near Hwy 16. We do consider him to be armed and as such, have deployed the appropriate resources to safely effect an arrest.
At this time we are unable to release any further details regarding the ongoing investigation which led up to the man being found at his residence" stated Cpl Dan Moskaluk.

"Our highest priorities regarding this matter are, a peaceful arrest and resolution to this incident, all the while ensuring public safety and that of our officers.  We have taken many precautionary steps which include the evacuation of some residences near the property in question." added Cpl Dan Moskaluk

A road closure of Hwy 16 in the area was erected in order to ensure public safety as this incident unfolds. A detour route has been established, however this detour does add a considerable amount of travel time estimated to be an additional 5 hours compared to the normal route.

The road closure along Hwy 16 is for both directions from Terrace to Kitwanga. The RCMP asks that Terrace residents and others entering or leaving the area via Hwy 16 to consider this added travel time to their itinerary. The closure is for both directions of Hwy 16 from Terrace to Kitwanga.

A piloted detour is available via Hwy 37, the Nass Forest Service Road and Nisga'a Hwy 113.
