The cost of building and upgrading venues for the 2010 Olympics, has  increased by 23%.  VANOC boss John Furlong made the announcement this morning saying the reason is the rapidly rising cost of construction.

The initial bid for the games was based on 2002 dollars,  and  the price tag was $470 million dollars,  that bill is now expected to hit $580 million.

The Province announced a new Sports Lottery yesterday,  and expect it will generate $20 million dollars,  of which $15 million will go towards the Games, and the remaining dollars wil be available to amateur sport in the province.  Still, that falls far short of the extra money needed and there are still  four years to go before all the bills are in.  The Province has already  set aside a contingency fund of just under $140 million dollars to  help with cost over-runs.

NO more Money,Just go away..Your bloodsuckers. IF we gave it to you..You will be back, Because your lower mainland BLOODSUCKERS.
You can be about ensured that we will be paying off that bill for those down south. Pretty much like how there gasoline is less expensive. We don't seem to sount for much up here except for our dollars to go south.....after all we have to help out Mr Campbell and all his croneys getting to Whistler easier....
After ten years of "helping out" Harcourt, Glen Clarke, Dan Miller, Moe Sihota and Ujjal Dosanjh I had kind of gotten used to us always getting the smelly end of the stick while the lower mainland pursued its own agenda - like Fast Ferries, Sky Trains and subsidizing money-losing crown corporations!

I assume the Mayor took the Premier on a tour of our potholed, busted and cracked up streets and roads!?

Just kidding! That would have been politically "incorrect" and depressing.
I believe these games will be of some benefit to Canada but at what cost when the gov. is making cuts in so many areas to be fiscally responsible then when is enough enough with these games after all they are not going to be seen first hand by many tax payers but we will pay the bills. As far as being left in the dust by the lower main land I guess majority rules so if we want what they got we should move their.Funny you should bring up the gas prices gofaster I think Vancouverits pay a extra $0.07 for some transit fee and their gas is still less go figure.
Here is a test for 5th graders......

If the $470 million was in 2002 $ ....

What is the year which the $580 million are measured in?

2002?
2005?
2006?
2010?
