Prince George, B.C. - The individual at the centre of a stand-off on a rural property along Highway 16-West -- between Terrace and Kitwanga -- has fled to a new area, RCMP have shifted their perimeter accordingly, and the highway is once again open to traffic...
North District Senior Media Relations Officer, Corporal Dan Moskaluk, says, the father of the suspect has been arrested at the rural property where the stand-off began last night. But, he says, "The ERT members were able to only safely observe the younger man fleeing the residence."
Corporal Moskaluk says, "ERT members continue to maintain a perimeter around the area that he is now believed to be in -- the area poses little risk to the general public in relation to Highway 16; therefore, we are able to safely re-open the highway to normal traffic."
Moskaluk says RCMP have deployed an RCMP Air Services helicopter to support the Emergency Response Team in their efforts, this includes the continued use of a Police Dog Service team, as well.
The RCMP spokesperson is emphasizing, "It is not a matter that the individual eluded police, but more indicative of our attempts and commitment to resolving the matter without further incident."
"Given our information, it is with little doubt that challenging the male as he fled could have resulted in a deadly confrontation," he adds. "We are maintaining a perimetre in the area and will continue our efforts to arrest the man."
