Smithers, B.C.- Renovations to the Bulkley Valley Hospital’s cancer clinic are complete, setting the stage for enhanced community cancer services.
The $182,000 renovations began in May and were funded through the Northern Cancer Control Strategy.
The expanded clinic is now in a separate area from other clinical spaces in the hospital, offering patients more privacy during their visits. The renovations also included a glass entrance way for the new oncology area.

“Our dedicated cancer care team invested a lot of their time and effort into the renovations for this new clinic, including input into design, décor, and color scheme,” said Cormac Hikisch, health services administrator. “They were very focused on ensuring that the new clinic would provide a warm and caring environment for their patients.”
“Through the Northern Cancer Control Strategy, we are working to improve cancer services across the North,” said Dr. Ronald Chapman, Executive Director for the strategy. “This expanded clinic is an important part of an integrated system of cancer care in Northern B.C. which is focused not only on treatment, but also prevention, early detection, and patient support.”
