Prince George, B.C. – The push continues to fill the Prince George Salvation Army Food bank. The total from last weekend’s “Cram the Van” has been revised, with the scales showing 7584 pounds of food had been collected in that one day event.

It doesn’t stop there.

From now till November 14th, drop by the showroom at Northland Dodge, Northland Hyundai or Northland Nissan. Drop off a non perishable food donation into their featured vehicle and you’ll also have a chance to win an HD Television Cable terminal courtesy of Shaw.

The Northland Auto group will also be donating a palette of food to the Salvation Army Foodbank.

Your food donation will be tripled in value as both Shaw and Campbell’s Canada will match your donation. For more information about Fill the Food Banks, visit www.togetherisamazing.com.

I often watch the people coming and going from the S.A.food bank on Ospika. I thinks many of the people are abusing the system big time. I've watched as new vehicals, new pick ups with campers,(Way newer than mine ,Mid 90's) pull up, people get out talking on cell phones, smokin, and returning with bags of food. Young people...who look more than capable of working, talking and texting on their phones while smoking waiting and leaving with bags of food. To me,somethings just not right with this picture. I'm thinkin if a lot of people can cut down on their grocery bill they can divert more money to the other more important things in life...bingo, casinos, booze, drugs, smokes. I know there are a whole lot of people out there that are in dire need of this service...and can't make ends meet but its being abused by far too many. Make something free n easy....and the people will come.
Hey yellow shovel....I agree with ya 100%. But what are ya gonna do? Heckle them? Harass them? Talk to these people and explain yer opinion on the error of their ways? Talk to the Sally Ann who will in turn maybe or maybe not "investigate" your "optical sightings" and "biased" musings concerning these people?
Interfere and some people will think you have a negative agenda towards people a little less better off than you. It is just the way of the world and as soon as you can just roll yer eyes, and say to yerself "Gee, that's too bad". Then you will feel better. It works fer me. That is why I have become so cynical in my old age, but nonetheless some people in this world, country, community have no class. Until that is against the law, I just have to say to you, live with it. I do. Kinda like the folks going to the diabetic clinic at the hospital and picking up a Big Gulp and a couple of chocolate bars at 7-11 on their way there. If ya want me to be rude, I will. Mind yer own business. The losers in this society will thank you, then blame you for their plights. No win win.
There are processes at St Vincents and I assume the same at salvation army where the income and children needs to be verified for assistance. the "newer" vehicles could ne friends helping the poor by driving the people home with the food. Kind of hard to carry the boxes and bags home via bus and walking.
well untill I'm sure these services are for the needy n not the greedy...I will give very little!
Hey yellow shovel...why not try an volunteer there and then dig up some certain dirt? Me? Nah! I'm too lazy/busy to have my suspicions confirmed. My cynicism is firmly ingrained. Good luck, pal.
Hmmm....Harbinger ....I don't think I've seen this side of you yet....your kinda a crusty ol fart eh.....
Whatever "floats my boat". Besides, do you have any idea how much work goes into being cynical? Every waking hour. I got this site, the National Post, CBC.ca TV and radio to feed my addiction.
