The CNC atrium was transformed into a 'dogwalk' fashion show
Prince George, B.C. - Forget fashion week in Paris, the place to be this weekend was the atrium at the College of New Caledonia for the 7th Annual Doggie Fashion Show.
Organizer, Barbara Old, says this creative fundraiser for the local SPCA came to her as an epiphany one afternoon seven years ago, as a fun way to "show off" her own two dogs. One has since passed, but his memory lives on through the 'Jasper Memorial Award' which she hands own to a rescue dog who participates in the fashion show and conducts himself with the "utmost dignity".
Old says each year, there are between 20 to 30 participants...this year saw 25 entrants. (Photo at right shows 13-year-old Shyla with Lily in front and Gomez to the left) And she says the show, itself, raises approximately $1,000 for the local SPCA, with a bit extra coming in from side fundraisers.
Old says she receives a lot of support from local independent businesses, which donate prizes. (At left, Madison Brien dressed as Belle with her friend 'Snow White', otherwise known as her dog, Daisy. Click on photo to see slideshow of others strut their stuff)
A few set up booths at Saturday's fashion show, including: Pawsitively Gifted, The "Dog Gone" Bakery, and "Fur Babies Boutique" -- a new business based in Vanderhoof, which sells doggie 'bling' like jewel-encrusted charms for your precious pooch's dog collar.
