UNBC President, Dr. Charles Jago, has just been appointed as the new chair of the Fraser Basin Council, a position he will officially begin this coming June.

President of the Fraser Basin Council Society, Roy Mussell, says the society is thrilled Dr. Jago has agreed to the appointment.  Mussell says, "He brings a wealth of experience to the Council and a great understanding of sustainability issues facing the Fraser River basin, particularly the basin's northern regions."

For his part, Jago says, "The health and prosperity of the Fraser River basin and its tributaries are essential to the quality of the economic and social life of every citizen in the province."

Jago is set to retire from his post as president of the University of Northern B.C. this summer, after 11 years on the job.  Later this month, he will travel to Ottawa to receive the Order of Canada.

Does this mean another High Profile, member of Prince George Society will leave Prince George in a hail of dust now that his job is over.???
I think all it means is that he will be able to continue to fly to the lower mainland at taxpayers' expense in order to meet about things that very few people know about or care about.

For instance, no one associated with the Fraser Basin group appears to know the answer to the question: "Is it more economical for the system of urban life to disperse or to continue centralizing in the lower mainland? Which creates the smaller ecological and economic footprint on this earth.

The snapshot report is intereting to read, especially in light of the questions I pose since the population increase in the GVRD is viewed as the major challenge of the Basin. In addtion, it appears to be water quality which is a concern in PG, not air quality. Air quality is the key problem associated with the Cariboo Chilcotin and it states that Quesnel is the worst in the Basin and second worst in Williams Lake, which is tied with PG.

From my point of view, the Council is an overrated association which does not even properly report out to the communities it serves.

Good luck to Dr. Jago .... maybe he can make this a more responsive and meaningful association.
