Author and Poet, Chris Bose, recites a selection of his poetry at ArtSpace
Prince George, B.C. - The 'Weaving Words Celebration' shifted from UNBC to ArtSpace this afternoon for selected readings from authors and poets taking part in the university's annual aboriginal storytelling festival.
Chris Bose, a member of the N'laka'pamux Nation in B.C., read a selection of poems from a booklet he put together 12-years ago, before being published. One poem prompted much sympathetic laughter from those in attendance as it recounted a bus trip home from Prince George to Kamloops, while suffering the effects of food poisoning.
Bose prefaced his readings with stories about where he was either geographically or mentally when he wrote the poem, he says often he feels like he is simply observing life with his poetry, but every now and then he gets lucky and gets creative with a poem. He has a new book out called, "Stone the Crow".
Organizers of the Weaving Words Celebration say the festival "arose out of a need to create a more prominent space and place for Aboriginal orality and literary efforts."
The festival wraps up with a movie screening of "Two Indians Talking" at the UNBC Gathering Place at 6pm, it is free and open to everyone.
