Terrace-  RCMP are continuing their investigation into the incident which led to the arrests of father and son Kevin and Kurtis Albert and the road closure of Hwy 16 on October 31 to November 1, 2010.

Prior to October 31, 2010, the Terrace RCMP were investigating the accused, Kurtis and Kevin Albert, in relation to other unrelated offences in the Terrace area.

“This previous investigation was ongoing during the afternoon of Sunday October 31st, 2010, when police received a complaint of the uttering of death threats and property damage.

It was reported that both of the accused had allegedly attended a property where they caused damage to the victims residence and uttered a death threat.  It was also reported that a rifle was observed in their vehicle at the time of the incident” stated Cpl Dan Moskaluk.

The accused’s vehicle was later located in the Terrace area that afternoon, with police attempting to stop it in order to detain the occupants.

The vehicle with both accused as occupants, failed to stop for police, causing officers to enter into a pursuit of the vehicle.  Once the identity of the occupants was confirmed, the pursuit was terminated in the interest of public safety, due to the manner in which the vehicle was being operated.

Investigators quickly confirmed that the suspects and the vehicle did return to the family residence, with police securing the area in attempts to arrest Kevin and Kurtis Albert.

Shortly after their return to the residence, shots were heard being fired in the area of the home, leading to a police closure of Hwy 16 due the close proximately of the residence to the highway. Terrace RCMP also evacuated a small number of nearby residence to prevent any threat to the nearby residents.

“The RCMP North District Emergency Response Team (ERT) was deployed and attempts were made to contact the accused’s and seek their cooperation to no avail.

At one point during the securement of the perimeter, police efforts grew more complex with the presence of area hunters found nearby. These individuals were spoken to and it was determined that they were legitimately in the area and were permitted to depart” added Cpl Dan Moskaluk.

RCMP ERT members remained at the property, from Sunday evening into Monday afternoon November 1, when both men were eventually arrested while attempting to flee the area.

The Terrace RCMP secured the scene following the arrest and executed a search warrant, eventually locating and seizing four firearms that were found on the property during the search.

54 year old Kevin Albert, has been released on bail conditions and has been charged with Uttering Threats, Mischief, Possessing a Weapon for Purpose Dangerous to the Public and Theft.

30 year old Kurtis Albert remains in custody and is facing charges of Uttering Threats, two counts of Mischief (property damage), two counts of Possessing a Weapon for Purpose Dangerous to the Public, three counts of Failing to Comply with Recognizance, Theft and Flight from Police.
