Cariboo-Prince George MP Dick Harris is already in Ottawa in anticipation of tomorrow's swearing in of Stephen Harper as Canada's next prime minister.

The day will unfold around 7am our time, when outgoing Prime Minister Paul Martin will visit the Governor-General to tender his resignation.  The swearing-in ceremony for Harper and his Conservative minority cabinet is expected to begin at 8am pacific time.

For his part, Dick Harris says he does not have his eye on a cabinet position.  "I've talked to the leadership and expressed my wishes and it doesn't include a cabinet minister's job or anything like that," but Harris says, "I do have a specific request I've put in."  He won't elaborate further at this point in time.

Harris says the first thing the Conservative government will do is introduce an accountability act.  He says, "There has to be a piece of legislation that demands the trust of Canadians is honoured by parliamentarians, and ministers, and senior bureaucrats in the civil service and the accountability act will do just that."

Is our local MP anxious to be a member of the governing party?  "Oh year, it's been 13 years of looking at the government and watching how the Liberals mismanaged their job and I'm anxious to be sitting on the other side," Harris says, "We're going to have a chance to show Canadians how to govern this country in a responsible, respectful fashion."

Yes indeed Owl, the Citizen's poster boy does have his moments. I didn't realize he was a stand up comedian.
