A sofa, washers, dryers, fridges and freezers were among the items recovered from the Cutbanks off Hoferkamp Road.
Prince George, B.C..- The City has taken extra steps to prevent illegal dumping off Hoferkamp Road on to the cutbanks above Wolczuk Road.
Over the past month, a clean up operation resulted in City Staff using a bobcat and a tracked excavator to remove the following from the cutbanks:
- 110 cubic yards of metal (5 ½ - 20 yard bins)
- 675 car/light truck tires
- 52 tractor trailer tires
- 30 loader/skidder tires
- 40 cubic yards of household garbage
- 10 automobiles
City Staff say the clean up cost just over $23 thousand dollars but would have cost a lot more had it not been for several partners who contributed to the success of the clean up. The Regional District contributed by waiving tipping fees at the landfill. Cascade Recovery (formally Metro Material Recovery), Allan’s Scrap and Salvage, Kal Tire and Richmond Steel all contributed haul bins and free pickup and delivery.
Changes made to prevent illegal dumping include:
- extending an existing chain link fence,
- increasing the height of the existing gravel berm that runs parallel to Hoferkamp Road and installing wooden bollards on top the gravel berm.
In a report to be presented to city council this evening, staff say Parks and Solid Waste Services, with the help of the Bylaw Services, will monitor Hoferkamp Road on a regular basis to help prevent future illegal dumping.
