A  sofa,  washers, dryers, fridges and freezers were among the  items recovered from the Cutbanks off Hoferkamp Road.
Prince George, B.C..- The City has taken extra steps to prevent illegal dumping off Hoferkamp Road on to the cutbanks above Wolczuk Road.
Over the past month,   a clean up operation resulted in City Staff using a bobcat and a tracked excavator to remove the following from the cutbanks:
  • 110 cubic yards of metal (5 ½ - 20 yard bins)
  • 675 car/light truck tires
  • 52 tractor trailer tires
  • 30 loader/skidder tires
  • 40 cubic yards of household garbage
  • 10 automobiles

City Staff say the clean up cost just over $23 thousand dollars but would have cost a lot more had it not been for several partners who contributed to the success of the clean up. The Regional District contributed by waiving tipping fees at the landfill. Cascade Recovery (formally Metro Material Recovery), Allan’s Scrap and Salvage, Kal Tire and Richmond Steel all contributed haul bins and free pickup and delivery.

Changes made to prevent illegal dumping include:
  • extending an existing chain link fence,
  • increasing the height of the existing gravel berm that runs parallel to Hoferkamp Road and installing wooden bollards on top the gravel berm.
In a report to be presented to city council this evening, staff say  Parks and Solid Waste Services, with the help of the Bylaw Services, will monitor Hoferkamp Road on a regular basis to help prevent future illegal dumping.

Great Job, let's clean this city up.
Good job. Dumping anywhere other than designated places is unnacceptable. Notice the large number of tires.

Some of this problem is because of the increased cost to $6.00 per trip at the 18 Avenue land fill, and some of the restrictions they have there.

In any event. Good job. Hopefully we wont have to do it again.
Cant they trace the automobiles by their registration number and charge the owner for the cleanup????
No mention of recovered animal parts. Now if we can just deter mighty "sportsmen" from dumping hides, bones and offal on city roads...
There is no excuse for dumping your crap wherever you want, it's laziness plain and simple...you can take 4 tires at a time to the land fill off of Foothills. If you have to make serveral trips so what? We did it and gee, we're alive to talk about it. It sickens me that people in this day and age have this ancient, red neck mantality! It's likely the same a-holes who just throw garbage out of their car windows...makes me sick. Some people are just stupid...
Just about any given morning there is garbage dumped right on the road right there. And this is the stuff they are just too lazy to carry over to the edge to dump. The morning after the "no dumping" signs were put up there was garbage on the ground at the base of the sign.
I'm tired of the no action on this. It's time for some surveillance. Game cameras are are cheap and easy to conceal. This could give the evidence required. Post the pics and identities in the news so the rest of the public will know which lawn we can use to dump our garbage to avoid tipping fees.
At least when it comes to dumping stuff at the cutbanks there ain't no 4 inch railing 3 inches above yer tailgate like there is at my local transfer station. They're worried about people being stupid enough to fall in and sue. If they are that paranoid I suggest they put up a chain link fence and people can stuff their stuff through the fence.
