Prince George, B.C. - The  Downtown District energy system has received an environmental assessment approval from the Federal Government.  This is the final  regulatory approval needed before the City can move forward

Project Manager Bob Radloff says this means  the detailed design can start now,  with the hope to send the project to tender in April of 2011.

Radloff says it  is hoped the new system could be up and running in 2012.

The project will see Lakeland Mills  provide the biomass to the burner which will  then  distribute heat through  piping under the CN  tracks to the downtown core.  There are a number of buildings already  set to be part of this new heating system, including, City Hall,  the 4 Seasons Pool, the Courthouse,  Colliseum, Civic Centre, Art Gallery, Coast Inn of the North, the Ramada Hotel and the Plaza 400.

The project has a $14.1 million dollar price tag. Most of that amount has been approved in grants but the City of Prince George will still need to borrow about $3.7 million to pay for the project.

What about the particulate matter that this plant will spew into the bowl area?
metalman.
So, what amount of pollution will this biomass burner generate and contribute to our downtown air quality?

This system is predicted to reduce the city's particulate emissions by 100 tonnes/year (+/-), and greenhouse gases are projected to be reduced by 1800-2000 tonnes/year.
So that reduction in greenhouse gas is going to do what? Has the science been proven? Your pockets are being picked big time. Why do we need this heating plant? Roads and sidewalks will be dug up, is this factored into the cost? Will the all ready installed heating systems be removed or kept and maintained for backup?
Seamutt think of greenhouse gas reduction as insurance in case the global warming theory is right. Similar to house insurance. I dont believe my house is going to burn down but just in case, I'm going to buy some insurance.
This is the most airy fairy project I have ever seen. All it does is provide employment for Radloff
Cheers
Soooooo, what if lakeland shuts down.Hmmm?
This assessment means nothing since this project violates Clean Air Bylaw #8266. If the average Joe can't use wood boilers, neither can The City. Fair's fair.
So hood the world should spend trillons based on a science in which billions have already been spent and the result is what? Looking at history and considering your reasoning it might be smarter to prepare for a cooling which would have a much greater adverse effect on mankind than any warming.
who's history ?your version? qualifications first. i think u over estimate them. pseudo-science lets you fill in blanks. and u have done wonderfully.

Here in Zimbabwe our GDP per head is lower than it was in 1951 and our electrical power usage for the entire country of 12 million people is 1500Mw. Consider also that our liquid fuel consumption is around 1m liters a day and you can see how far we have to go to improve lives.

The disastrous corollary to this is that deforestation is massive and accelerating because wood as a fuel is “free”. In the last 10 years approximately 60% of our forests have been burned to cook food and to provide poor light after dark.

Widespread rural electrification coupled with upgraded power generation ( we have billions of tons of coal and huge natural gas fields that have not been exploited) would improve lives and stop deforestation. Instead my government is disinvesting in power and starting to pass laws to combat global warming with particular reference to CO2.

It seems we have chosen poverty over development.

So Hood show me the science. I guess Gore has it figured since he has made over 300 million with the scam of his discredited lie of a movie.
so now there is warming but its caused by deforestation? who is keith battye?
i no longer have access to academic papers but here are some media sources.

its possible I might be a victim of Al Gore's conspiracy or perhaps you are a victim of the energy lobby's effort. reminds me of the tobacco lobby.
