Prince Rupert, B.C. - The RCMP will be holding three information meetings the first week in December to gauge the Prince Rupert community's interest in starting a Community Prevention Education Continuum(CPEC). The RCMP Drugs and Organized Crime Awareness Service (DOCAS) wants to bring the resources of Prince Rupert together to educate youth on drug use prevention and making healthy choices from Kindergarten through to Grade 12.

“Prince Rupert youth are receiving drug awareness and healthy choice instruction intermittently throughout their school life. This program will make sure all youth are getting the facts about drugs and the tools to make healthy decisions every year.” states Crime Prevention officer Cst. Stevenson.

The Prince Rupert RCMP, in partnership with the Canadian Border Services Agency are committed to teaching the ten-week DARE program to all Grade 5 students in Prince Rupert, Port Edward and the four villages. Awareness and safety talks are also being given by RCMP to Kindergarten through Grade 4 students. The CPEC initiative is reaching out to the community and asking that they take on youth from Grade 6-12. Many agencies and community groups may already be addressing these issues with youth; however, by working together we can provide a seamless and consistent approach throughout their school years.

The DOCAS coordinator, Cpl. Anne House, will be seeking the community's involvement in the Crime Prevention Education Continuum during these meetings.
