Bell Looks Forward to Leadership Race

Prince George, B.C.-  Minister of Forests, Mines and Lands, Pat Bell, says he isn’t thinking about his political future at the moment, “The day I think perhaps someone else can step in and carry a more important role than the one I am carrying at any point in time, I would be happy to go back to the private sector. I only want to be in Victoria if I have something to add, something to help support our forest industry or mining industry in Prince George.”
Bell says he is interested in seeing how the platforms develop for those who are expected to run for the Party Leadership. The four expected to be in the running are Rich Coleman, Kevin Flacon , George Abbott and Mike deJong and there is a possibility Blair Lekstrom may join the race. “I think all of those folks we could do well under. What I’m really keen and interested in seeing is how their platforms will develop, particularly around an economic focus, that’s where my mind has always been.”
Bell says he thinks it will be exciting to go through a leadership race “I’ve never had this experience, I was not involved in politics when Gord was originally elected as the leader of the B.C. Liberal party.”

BC Politics 101.. Chapter 1 case study.

Assignment: Go find the nearest school yard and watch the jungle gym during recess and lunch hour...

The scope if this assignment is so you can get a firm grasp on the psycology of BC politics..If your still un sure about it then observe your nearest day care or pre school.

On wait..due to budget cuts we can find a decent shcool to go and observe..

How can any of them HAVE ANY DIFFERENT "... platforms (that)will develop, particularly around an economic focus...", when they're all still in a Cabinet that demands blind obedience to "fearless Leader"?

Either there's to be no change whatsoever, no matter which one of these Ministers gets the top job ~ in which case the Liberal Leadership contest is about as meaningful as a beauty contest; or they should resign from Cabinet as soon as they announce they're in the running, so WE can hear what EACH has to offer; or, "fearless Leader" should resign immediately, as Bill Bennett suggested. And an impartial interim Leader takes over in a caretaker role, allowing any differences in POLICY amongst these candidates to be seen by the public.

The thing to watch now is whether Bill Bennett stays a BC Liberal, or takes the plunge to become a member of some other Party. If he goes elsewhere, watch the rest of the lemmings scurry to follow.
What would it matter who gets elected as the new leader of the liberals? Given the 3 or 4 leading contenders blind allegiance to Campbell and his HST platform nothing will change. New face, same great program. Should be an ego booster though to be able to say he or she was the BC premier for 2 years.

Now with the tax cut rescinded and an extra 600 million in the coffers there should be no issue in where to find the money to pay back the Feds.
Yeah! go too work at yer Wendys, for 8 bucks!
Yeah! go too work at yer Wendys, for 8 bucks!
“The day I think perhaps someone else can step in and carry a more important role than the one I am carrying at any point in time, I would be happy to go back to the private sector."

Bold statement to make.
The amazing thing here is that Pat Bell isn't even embarrassed by what is taking place.
Happy,happy,happy!
He is ignoring the political suicide of the B.C. Liberal party, of which he is a member!
So is Shirley Bond.
What will she do without Gordon Campbell to tell her what to do,think, and say?
And John Rustad?
Where IS John Rustad?
Keeping his usual low profile, it seems,
While he has never been known for being an independant thinker, unless he has permission of course, does he have no opinion?
These "elected representatives" are so silent on what is taking place, and obviously being good little Campbell minions to the bitter end,it is actually quite weird!
Why?
With all that is taking place,do they not think they have an obligation to speak to those who elected them in regards to what is happening within the B.C.government?
Obviously not,and I really have to wonder about that.
I think they all want to keep their jobs for awhile yet Andyfreeze. So they will keep their mouths shut or only utter Campbelleze.
Notice that now that Campbell has supposedly resigned the press is now ignoring him for the most part and I bet he is busy in the background doing what he has been doing all along.
And I really believe that the withdrawl of the tax break was Campbells doing, getting his last revenge in on the people for goingag ainst him and blaming it on someone else.
Hey Bell! What makes you think that just because your loser leader of your loser party is leaving, that anyone of the candidates for the leadership of your done party, will erase anything you people have done to the people of this province?

Go away you're all done!
The MLA's just sitting back quietly not disrupting the waters says much more about them than standing up and getting this fool campbell out of here NOW. Total lack of disregard for the people who have voted them in.

Total Recall may be needed.
It's clear that when Diane Watts decided not to run for the leadership of the Liberals this party will be finished.

And if James hangs on to the NDP leadership, the NDP will be finished as well.

Where is the alternative?
I hope and pray it will not be Delaney.
"It's clear that when Diane Watts decided not to run for the leadership of the Liberals this party will be finished"

You should have written this statement to reflect the obvious reality, like the following....

It's clear Diane Watts decided not to run for the leadership of the Liberals because this party is finished.

Pat, Pat, Pat, we know that you have been one of Gordo's most loyal yes men to date( include Shirley Bond in this as well). You have firmly afixed yourself to his posterior in the finest of a$$kissing positions since first elected. It comes as no surprise that you are refusing to join the list of rats leaving a sinking ship but, I wonder has the idea of self preservation reared it's head in your thinking at all? Do you not see that distancing yourself from B.C.'s weapon of Mass Destruction is the only possible choice to save your political career? You say that you are ready to go back into the private life of the non-politican but do you really want this to happen without at least trying to personally distance yourself from a leader whose main legacy will be as a crook and someone who swindled the voting public by selling off assets that were not yours to sell, a man whose most identifiable personal image is that of a liar and a theif, and a man who personally oversaw the destruction of the social safety net(resulting in a large increase in the suicide rate of the disabled and who oversaw the creation of poverty at a rate that would have made Hitler proud). Not distancing yourself from this mess can only be seen as a sign of lack of personal identity as a thinking man (woman in Shirley's case as she too has been just as vocally supportive of this proven "Not nice person"). Has this man so taken over your will as to cause you to be publically exposed as being in legion with this disgrace? This, I think is the most telling thing of all with respect to your commitment to your voting public. Nice legacy guys. Enjoy living with this for the rest of your lives.
Looking through the comment boards on other BC newspapers I can only laugh at the negativity towards the liberal government.
"All the Premier's Gang" will make a nice script for a movie. What is happenning right now is the elimination of potential
leadership candidates and increasing the chances of the Campbell's gang to take
over the helm of the party. First Watts and now Bennett.

Blair Lekstrom may be the next target.
