Prince George, B.C.-  The Province has updated its surgical wait list website.

The site is meant to give patients an idea of how long they may have to wait for certain procedures.   With information on wait times for the same procedure in different health authorities, a patient can then discuss the issues with their  general practitioner who can help them decide if there's a faster or more appropriate treatment available.

The website uses information gathered in the new Surgical Patient Registry, a provincial database that captures comprehensive, up-to-date information on all patients waiting for elective surgeries in B.C.

The new database and website also allow health authorities and the Province to pinpoint where the longer waits are, in order to make better decisions about funding and surgical resource allocation.

The new website allows the public to search using a body image, to search through 80 adult elective surgical groups performed at any public facility, by any surgeon in any part of the province.

Visit www.health.gov.bc.ca/waitlist for more information.

The example below shows how  some information  will appear for  a queery about  hip replacement wait times:

These wait lists for surgery might be accurate but they are misleading. For myself, it will take a minimum of six months and up to one year to see the specialist before s/he can book an appointment for surgery. The private clinics charge $400 to to see them.
Private cklinic is the way to go.
Even Worker's Compensation is sending people to the (private) Cambie Street Clinic.
Keep those Northern Health buses. They're the best.
