Volunteer Fire Fighter Dies On Way To Fight A Fire

Williams Lake- A 62 year old volunteer fireman on his way to fight a fire on behalf of the Lone Butte Volunteer Fire Department has died as a result of injuries he suffered when the vehicle he was in, was involved in an accident, just east of the fire hall on Highway 24 early Saturday, November 20th.
Henry Van Kessel had responded to a call for a chimney fire, and was on his way to the scene of the fire, when he was involved in an accident with another vehicle near the fire hall.
The volunteer fire department meantime responded to a call of an accident only to discover that Van Kessel was in one of the vehicles.
Mutual aid assistance was given to the volunteer fire fighters by the 100 mile auto extrication unit.
Van Kessel had been a member of the Lone Butte Fire department since 2007.
He is survived by friends and relatives in Lone Butte, the lower mainland , Ontario and Cuba.
