Victoria- The Province is providing more than $1.1 million to the regional districts of Bulkley-Nechako and Kitimat-Stikine as payment in lieu of property taxes for the Alcan Kemano hydroelectric generating facility. The payments, are seven per cent higher than they were last year.

The Bulkley-Nechako and Kitimat-Stikine regional districts receive compensation for hosting the Alcan Kemano facility under a 15-year agreement with the Province.

This year, the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine will receive $459,696 and the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako will receive $676,043. The payments are calculated in the same way as those made to local governments by BC Hydro for

Dragonmaster read the story again.
Does this mean that Alcan has been "excused" from paying taxes?
More give-aways to corporations?
Pretty sure thats what it means sardonic. It means the taxpayer is picking up their tax bill in the form of our taxdollars being handed over to regional districts. The gov't and anyone receiving this money likes to call these taxdollars "grants".

Don't know exactly what kind of spin you'd put on it hood rich. Why don't you enlighten us.
