Williams Lake Crash Sends Victim to Vancouver

Williams Lake, B.C. - A 41-year-old man from the Williams Lake area is in hospital in the lower mainland in serious, but stable condition, following a single vehicle crash just outside the cariboo community on Monday evening.
RCMP are just releasing information about the crash now. They say the driver was the lone occupant of a vehicle that left highway 97, near Airport Road, and struck a tree. Police say there was significant damage to the driver's compartment. The victim was rushed to Cariboo Memorial Hospital, where he was transferred out, due to the seriousness of his condition.
"The cause of the collision is still under investigation by the Williams Lake RCMP," says Sergeant Steve McLeod. "It appears, at this point, that the driver may have been traveling too fast for the road conditions at the time of the collision. However, the investigation is ongoing."
McLeod adds that this is an unfortunate reminder that winter road conditions are upon us and motorists need to adjust their driving accordingly. He says, "Many of the collisions during the past week have occurred on highways and rural areas where the speed limits are often higher than other areas. Speeds relative to the conditions continues to be a significant factor in these collisions and drivers need to adjust their speed based on the road conditions, not the posted speed limits."
