Terrace, B.C. - The inquest into the police shooting death of a First Nations man over a year ago will be rescheduled.
35-year-old Rodney Shane Jackson was fatally shot in an altercation with an RCMP Emergency Response Team in September of last year. RCMP say they found Jackson, who was wanted on outstanding warrants, and his brother in a remote area when the shooting took place. Jackson later died of injuries.
The shooting death prompted calls for an independent investigation by the BC First Nations Summit and the Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs.
An inquest into the death was scheduled to start next week, but has been adjourned at the request of family. Presiding Coroner Shane Demeyer and a jury will hear evidence to determine the facts surrounding the death at a later date to be confirmed.
