Prince George, B.C. -  Mayor Dan Rogers was on-hand to flip the switch and light up both the Christmas tree at Wilson Square this evening, and the Winter Festival of Lights atop Connaught Hill...

The City, Tourism Prince George, and the Downtown Business Improvement Association partnered with a number of corporate sponsors to provide today's festivities, which included a hayride, mini-train ride, hot chocolate and cookies at the Fire Pit.

Hundreds of city residents dropped downtown over the course of the three hour event.  Rob Mazzelli and his children: Marissa, Emma, Brody, and Lucas in the stroller, enjoyed their one-on-one time with Santa in photo at right.

Tourism PG CEO. Aidan Kelly, says, "This Northern Lights Festival has become a bit of a staple in the community and, as we move forward towards the 2015 Winter Games that are taking place, we'll be building our winter capacities and our opportunities for winter time events here, so this is something I think is just going to grow on an annual basis."

Keeping the 2015 Winter Games in mind, Mayor Rogers had the crowd cheer "We are Winter", before throwing the switch and lighting up the night.

This is great news. First we use tax dollars to install the lighting and then you pay to look at it.
