Prince George, B.C. -  Hard to believe it has already been 15 years since the Prince George Community Foundation came to be.

Last night, about 150 people were on hand at  Exploration Place to celebrate the Foundation's 15th Anniversary and the organizations which it  funds.

The Foundation  provides grants to charitable organizations which perform worthwhile projects in a variety of  areas all aimed at enhancing the quality of life in Prince George.

In 1998 the first grant of $1000 was given to the BC Schizophrenia Society to benefit Prince George youth afflicted by the disease.  Foundation President Lorraine Grant says there have been many more grants since then  “I am proud to say that since that time we have, as of August 31, 2010 distributed close to $620,000 in grants and earned income.”

According to their filings with CRA they don't spend a lot of administration or salaries. This is the type of charity we should support. Oops, I guess now I have to make a donation. Tis the season.
