Foothills Elementary School at sunset this evening
Prince George, B.C.- School Board Chair, Lyn Hall, says first and foremost, "The Board and Staff want to offer our condolences and our prayers to the family of this young boy."
Hall says the grade 7 student was at school on Friday morning, playing in a field when he dove to catch a ball. He didn’t get up. "9-1-1 was called and the boy was taken to University Hospital of Northern B.C. where he later died, we really still don’t know what happened."
The School District’s Critical Events Response (CERT) Team was at Foothills working with staff, students and parents by late afternoon Friday.
The CERT team returned to the school today, to provide support for the boy's classmates and their parents.
The CERT team will be at the school again tomorrow and on Monday. "We have advised the school community that we will have this team available to them if they need to talk about this" says Hall. Several people have taken advantage of the offer and attended the school today to talk with members of the team.
The boy’s name has not been released. Hall says at this point the cause of death is not known.
The Board of Education for School District 57, staff, and students continue to search for answers today in the wake of the tragic death of a Foothills Elementary School student.Previous Story - Next Story
