Prince George, B.C. – The trial of City Councillor Brian Skakun has resumed with former Mayor Colin Kinsley on the stand.
Skakun is accused of releasing the confidential Kitty Heller report to the CBC. That report was an investigation into allegations of harassment and conflict of interest involving some City employees.
Judge Kenneth Ball advised the court he expects the evidence in this matter to be presented this week and he will do whatever he can to ensure that happens. Judge Ball says “a fair trial doesn’t mean a perfect trial, or a trial that goes on forever.”
The trial is into it’s second week, having completed the first week at the end of October. The witness list has been pared back with affidavits, from all the Councillors at the time the document was leaked, being submitted to the Court.
Kinsley says it was not his practice to get involved in employee issues, because those issues were “best dealt with by people who were hired and paid to do that.” He has testified he would have been advised by the City Manager that there were allegations of harassment at the RCMP detachment and he had been advised some outside help was looking into it.
When asked if he had ever actually read the Heller report, he says he glanced through it, and read the summary. “It was my practice for all those years to leave employment issues in the hands of senior staff.”
