Chances of that passing are???

I would think slim to none.
Hmmmm ... waiting ... all agree but Conservatives .... this could be close
143 to 138 ... the Conservatives were defeated on this vote ....

now what????
There seem to be some sane heads in the Canuck parliament after all...... :-)
This was only a "Motion" and will never see the light of day.

Cullen can always be counted on to try and do whatever he can to trash anything that will bring some economic benefit.
Just a reminder of the UBCM vote in October

"Today at the Union of British Columbia Municipalities annual convention in Whistler delegates from B.C. municipalities resoundingly voted in opposition to the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline and oil tanker traffic on B.C.‘s north coast.

"I am overwhelmed and very grateful to the delegates of the UBCM for standing up for coastal communities on an issue that has provincial and national significance," said Leslie Johnson, a councillor with the Village of Queen Charlotte.

Understanding of the issue is growing, and that is leading to stronger opposition across the province," said Carol Kulesha, Mayor of the Village of Queen Charlotte."

I realize that democracy is going to hell in a hand basket these days. Well see where it ends up.
A "motion" is when you sit on the john ... or is that a "movement"?

This motion was passed and it was to create legislation to ban tanker traffic on sections of the north coast. I realize that between now and then the content may not be what some will expect it to be and that there was likely no time frame attached to it. But the intent is there and it will be interpreted in different ways.

An election will clarify what the parties will do with it. The Liberals and NDP will win points with it in the lower mainland and along the coast during an election. The Conservatives will have to pussyfoot around it.
given the condition of the opposition parties, i imagine that Harper would welcome and election any time. and the new polls out are suggesting that harper and the conservatives are closing in on majority status. considering that the only alternative to a harper majority would be a majority coalition of the liberals, separatists, and ndp.

hmmmm imagine gilles duceppe having a veto over everything canada, or jack layton being responsible for the financial affairs of our country?

think i'll pick harper given this choice.
Just a note...re the UBCM vote...

How many know that the tanker vote was held at the end of the very last day of their convention. Most of the delegates had already gone home and only a handful was left to vote. I think the timeing was planned and the vote was a "set-up" plain and simple.

I would bet large that if the entire UBCM delegates were to vote on this issue, it would fail miserably.
There is a saying in German: "HÄTTE der Hund net geschissen, HÄTTE er `nen Hasen gefangen"

Roughly translated? If the dog hat not shit, he would have caught a rabbit.
