Prince George, B.C.- School District 57 Trustee Lyn Hall is back in the post as Chair of the Board of Education. His was the only name  put  forth for the post at tonight’s School Board meeting.

As for the position of Vice Chair, Trustee Trish Bella will fill that spot. Lois Boone had been the Vice Chair in the past, but she is running for the NDP in the Prince George- Peace River  riding.

The B.C. School Trustees Association Councillor will be Valentine Crawford. Trustee Sherel Warrington has been named BCPSEA Representative.

Following the  elections, Chair Lyn Hall once again offered School District 57's  condolences to the  Sawatsky family.  That is the family of the 12 year old boy  from  Foothills Elementary who died on Friday. "It has taken the wind out of our sails" remarked Chair Hall "not to mention what is has done to the family.  We're really in disbelief.   If it is any comfort at all, we send our condolences to the Sawatsky family and know that the entire School District family is thinking about them."

The cause of the boy's death has not been released.  It is only known that  he was playing in a field, attempted to catch a ball, and did not get up.  He was rushed to  UHNBC where he later died.

Lynn Hall has had to Chair the trustees through some very difficult times. He has done an excellent job in trying to live with the reality of a shrinking population and a populous that does not want schools neighbourhood schools closed.
The trustees ignored the reality of a shrinking population until it was impossible to ignore it any longer. Hardly the stuff leaders are made of.
The Trustees ahve been dealing with shrinking populations and closing schools for a number of years now. The last school board 57 chair to ignore the situation was Shirley Bond. The current trustees have been forced to deal with difficult situations, and have responded fairly well, all things considered.
