Key Position Filled At Northern Cancer Centre

Dr. Suresh Katakkar has been hired as the centre's medical oncologist. Oncologists diagnoses cancer and recommends treatment programs, as well as coordinator with other professionals in the delivery of care. The vacancy has been front and centre on the strategy team's webpage since recruiting efforts began for the centre, which is set to open in 2012.
BC Cancer Agency spokesperson, Dr. Charles Blake, says, "We would like to thank Northern Health, UNBC, the City of Prince George, and various local medical professionals for their ongoing help in showcasing the North as a dynamic place to work in health."
Prince George-Valemount MLA, Shirley Bond, says, "The ongoing recruitment efforts for the Northern Cancer Control Strategy are continuing to pay off."
"Finding core cancer care specialists who will help to provide expanded services in northern B.C. is a key part of the strategy," says Bond. "The successful recruitment of Dr. Katakkar, together with Dr. Olson as our first radiation oncologist, will provide a solid foundation on which to recruit other required positions."
Dr. Katakkar has been practising for more than 35-years. He began his career in Saskatchewan before moving to the United States. Since 1980, he has been working in Arizona and is expected to arrive in Prince George early in the new year.
