The director of Operations, Bill Gaal says the wording of the Snow and Ice Control Policy will be changed in order to reflect the desire to have downtown streets ploughed when the accumulated snowfall exceeds 75mm in depth. This work will be undertaken primarily at night due to traffic considerations. The intent is to maintain bare pavement where possible.  That change will not have any impact on the budget.

Councilor Dave Wilbur says he has received many calls  and emails from people concerned there would be a reduction in service, he says the message they delivered to him was clear " If you touch our snow removal, a pox be on your home."

Councillors Frizzell and Bassermann  offered  recognition to the workers who are often up all night clearing the streets.

How does one get this survey in order to participate?
The survey was online at the City's website for several weeks.
no change, plow the v.l.a first and always leave the high end neighbourhoods? because they dont complain!! the v.l.a or the hood should be done last or never!
You may have a nicer house than some of us, but do you think you are more important than the rest. I live in a vla section and we have 2 very large pulp mills, the oil refinery and FMC also a bus route, do we not rate because the area is not HIGH END?
One nice thing about living in the regional district... I enjoy rattling down the ruts and snow until I hit city limits - then its a nice freshly graded road the rest of the way home ;-)
People are nuts. Snow removal in PG is atrocious. However, it would cost more to remove it all right away and that would mean an increase in taxes.....
I've lived all across the country in many different major cities, some of them farther north than PG and PG by far has the very best snow removal. Many cities don't plow the subdivisions and certainly don't remove the snow from home owners' driveways. We pay for these great services so don't be complaining about the snow removal & then in the next sentence complain about how much we pay for it in our taxes. You can't have your cake & eat it too. Many people don't know how to drive in the winter. They think they can continue to drive fast and then slide thru the intersections when they can't stop in time. Slow down and get some good winter tires and quit complaining.
I am glad that the City has finally listened to the people. It is nice to see that they did a survey and then have actually done what the citizen has advised instead of insisting that they know better then the people what they want and need. good job! Please listen more
moretaxes please, i live on milburn and i think its a joke they plow our streets first the lowest tax paying buildings in town and hardly touch streets in westgate!
I think the city should give us all free snowmobiles then we won't care about the roads, I know its ridiculous but so is the handling of the "snow budget". The fact that we have a snow budget is because we live in a northern town, the fact that the city mismanages it each year is appaling. It is going to snow each and every year, it has for the past century, why is it always such a point of contention when it snows, and they need to have a budget? Heres a thought, set a realistic snow budget in March, and then leave that money alone till oct, don't dip into it just let it be and viola a successful snow budget.

If the city politicians don't understand this then there layeth the problem.
Well said "highlanderpg" because that is exactly what it is. Keep your fingers out of the snow budget and we might have a snow budget.
I agree 100% With Mythoughts, i've lived in winter cities where the don't touch any residential streets. It was rediculous. I was blown away with the job PG does. The city does plenty of things poorly, but snow removal isn't one of them.
Saw a city dump truck with his blade down "plowing" Henry Road this AM in behind Vanway school. Tuesdays snow on our streets? You decide. Putting the hours on to justify next years budget, methinks.
"Slow down and get some good winter tires and quit complaining.

I am sorry, it does not matter which tires are on the vehicle. I bumpy road that has not been plowed for a week after a total of over 10 to 15 cm of snow is still a bumpy road. Winter tires do not change that one bit.

It is truly amazing what a plow can accomplish with respect to a bumpy road, summer or winter.

Winter cities where they do not plow residential streets? You must mean winter hick towns. Or maybe cities that get little snow. Any city that is a true city and a winter city on top of that in Canada, plows the streets in their residential areas. The east, from Ontario right through to the Atlantic has winter cities. There are very few of them that get less snow than PG. Please name a few where they have a policy of not plowing residential streets and link us to their web pages that indicates their snow clearing policy.
What are you talking about... PG is a hick town gus and the residential areas are cleared and very well too. I lived in Regina for several years and they never once ever plowed the residential areas. Regina gets just as much snow as we do and is a much larger city. I lived in Burlington, Ontario for several years and not once did they plow out my driveway. If we had a hug dump of snow like they just had this week, we were all out digging out the end of our driveways for sometimes several hours just so we could get out to go to work or get into our driveways when we came home. It was not unusual to have several feet of snow dumped at the end of the driveway from the plows.
quote from City of Regina's website...
"Category 5 roads
These roads are plowed when time permits down to a maximum snow pack layer of 10 cm. (Example: Residential local streets)"
As I said, not once did I ever have my subdivision plowed. If you click on the link in this website "Road Categories for Systematic Plowing & Ice ControlMap" you will see that there is no timeframe for over 50% of the roads, which are residential and trust me, they never do them.

PG might do a better job than Regina but its still a crap job. Winter comes every year so they need to budget accordingly. When they have good years where not much snow has fallen then don't lower the budget for next year expecting the same results. Seen that little trick lots of times....
