Prince George, B.C.- The Regional District of Fraser Fort George will not  move forward at this time with a referendum to  develop a cemetery  in the Lakes District.

In October, the Regional District Board voted to enter into an alternative approval process for a proposed new cemetery service in the Lakes area.  The  process, if  approved would have given  the Regional District the Authority to borrow about $33 thousand dollars for   construction of a cemetery.  That money would have been recovered through special taxation in the Lakes District.

There were a total of 1855 electors within the affected area, and by the December 7th  deadline,  207 response forms were received. This represented more than 10% of electors, and thus the service could not go forward without a referendum.

Neither the Lakes Cemetery Society nor the Regional District will be pursuing a referendum at this time.

33,000??That's it?? It would be a lot more money if our overspending council was involved. Probably in the neighborhood of 33 million. That building in the graveyard only cost us 8 million. Immagine if you can a building with no rooms, just a few shelves, for dead folks ashes. That's real good bang for our buck huh?
