Canada has clinched its first medal of the 2006 Winter Olympics -- Freestyle skier Jennifer Heil of Spruce Grove, Alberta has finished first in the women's moguls.

It's a great way to kick off the first full day of competition underway in Turin, Italy on what is being described as a picture-perfect day with sunshine and a full view of the Alps.

Prince George athlete Chris Wong, also a member of the 2006 Canadian Ski Team, is preparing to take to the slopes on Wednesday.  He will be competing in the men's moguls Freestyle ski event.

City residents wanting to pass along their best wishes to Wong can do so, thanks to an "electronic telegram" set up on the City's website. (click here, to do so)

The link is also passing on congratulations to local resident Joe Rea (yes, this is the correct spelling!), the Head Coach of the 2006 Canadian Wheelchair Curling Team, and former resident Dave Wood, Head Coach of the 2006 Canadian Cross-Country Ski Team.
