RCMP members from the Prince George Major Crimes Unit, the Forensic Identification Unit and investigators from North District's Major Crimes Unit continue to scour a ditch along Highway 16, east of the city near Tabor Mountain, where human remains were found yesterday.

Police were called to the scene around 2:30pm, but will not say who made the discovery.

Constable Gary Godwin is confirming the deceased was female, but says the investigation has not revealed the age, identity, or cause of death at this point.

Godwin says the remains have not yet been moved, as investigators work to collect evidence and piece together information.  And, he says, at this point, it's impossible to pinpoint how long the remains have been at the site.  He says once investigators determine that timeframe, they will likely be issuing a call for possible witnesses.

Constable Godwin says the body will be transported to the forensic pathologist in Kamloops for an autopsy.
