Creating A Community of 'Super Hosts'
By 250 News
The City of Prince George and Events Prince George want to market the city to its fullest potential...
With an eye to achieving that goal, the two have teamed up to offer an on-line Event Hosting Guide that's meant to help local groups succeed in their bids to draw regional, provincial and national events into Prince George.
Community Services Manager, Colleen Van Mook, calls the on-line guide a huge step forward for event hosting, "No longer do those considering, or actually hosting events, have to re-invent the processes every time."
The guide offers up tips on pre-event planning, the physical requirements needed to host, and samples of successful bids already won by city groups, including the 2007 Royal Bank Cup -- the National Junior A Hockey Championship.
The City, itself, is trying to shore up its ability to attract conferences and conventions to civic facilities. A new marketing position was created at the Civic Centre this past fall to try and better 2005's record of 33 conferences at the site.
And Leisure Services would like to see an Event Hosting Coordinator position included in the 2006 budget, at a price tag of $40,000.00 for six months. If approved, the full year salary included in the 2007 budget would rise to $80,000.00. Councillors have deferred a decision on the request to the last budget meeting set for the beginning of March.
