Prince George, B.C. - A 41 year old  Prince George man has been arrested  on Child Pornography  related  offences and a seven year old child  rescued.
RCMP  say  the  arrest was made on December 18, by members of the RCMP Integrated Child Exploitation (ICE) unit.

The investigation started earlier the same week when the ICE unit received information from the United States Department of Homeland Security showing that an individual in Prince George was sharing child pornography pictures with other predators. Examination of the pictures sent by this Prince George suspect lead investigators to believe that they were home made and that a child was at risk.

With the assistance of the Prince George RCMP Detachment and the Integrated Technology Crime unit, members of the ICE unit executed a search warrant at the residence of this male. Police located and seized evidence that included Child Pornography pictures and videos, some pictures were created by the suspect showing his own 7 year old daughter.

To protect the identity of the victim, no names have yet been released.
The male arrested is expected to face charges of Possession, Distribution and Making of Child Pornography. He was released from Police custody on December 19, 2010 under strict conditions and is expected to make a first court appearance on January 12, 2011.

“The child is now safe with her mother and no longer at risk. This case is another excellent example of what can be accomplished through cooperative work between the U.S. and Canada” says Cpl Mat. VAN LAER from the ICE unit.

This is just about as sick as a person can get. Thankyou very much Homeland Security and our very own Mounties for the excellent work nailing this man.
Why would this guy be out on bail? Leave him up on the hill in the general population.
You use the word "man" losely Slim, but ya, this is sick. Sad.
loosely,

What's with these "Integrated" units these days? Everything is "integrated". Did they used to work in a "disintegrated" fashion? Is this a PR makeover for the media?

So far I count the following:

1. Integrated Child Exploitation (ICE) unit.

2. Integrated Technology Crime unit. (ITC I assume)

3. Integrated Provincial Traffic Services Unit (IPTS?)

4. Integrated Marihuana Enforcement (C.R.I.M.E.) Task Force

5. Integrated National Security Team of Investigators (INSTI?)

6. Integrated Gang Task Force (IGTF?)

I am sure I am missing a few .....

May we could use an IPF .... Integrated Police Force..... :-0
Sounds like he needs to get chop chop, that will take care of his problems.
This is too good to be true .......

7. Integrated Border Enforcement Team

8. Integrated Market Enforcement Team

9. Integrated Illegal Gaming Enforcement Team

10. Integrated Proceeds of Crime Unit

11. Integrated Homicide Investigation Team's

12. Integrated Road Safety Unit

13. Integrated National Security Enforcement Team ...

Then, of course we have the super integrated teams .... the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit.

Come on people, help me with this .. can we get it up to 20 units/teams/task forces/whatever
I wonder if they all follow the SMART principles? That would make them SMART, Integrated Units ..... ;-)
So a child predator is taken off the streets and Gus' concern is the use of the word integrated. Sad.
Gus is trying to take sad out of a very sick situation. I enjoy your humour Gus, keep it coming.
This guy got bail probably because the victim is out of his reach, he probably had no previous convictions of violence. That's our legal system. If you don't like it, notify your MP that you don't like it.That's the only way you will get bail conditions changed.
Dude, yes I used the term loosely, he is one sick human.
Actually gus, it's quite possible that operations were not "integrated" in the past. There are many cases in government of the "left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing" and I'd be willing to bet allot of money that it still occurs, especially when you have different arms of government working on similar files.

One obvious example could be cross border criminal issues where customs, RCMP and CSIS may all have overlapping mandates, but different resources and organizations in place to fulfill those mandates. Some level of "integration" may be beneficial and more efficient in tackling the problems.
NMG ... you wrote:"I'd be willing to bet allot of money that it still occurs"

That is kinda what I was trying so say in my tongue in cheek post. Just because integrated is in the unit's description does not mean that they operate in an integrated fashion. And the reverse, of course, is also true. A team can work in an integrated manner, without the word in their name. As the saying goes, "the proof is in the pudding". :-)

Thanks for your comments Slim2229. I guess I simply look at these things as the facts of life. No need to comment. As far as I am concerned, totally redundant after the first few other than for those who have to come in there with ... hey, me too, me too ...

That absolutely does not mean that I do not think that the actions of such people are horrendous. To me, that is simply a given.

I am not one to scold people, to act like macho Mr. Good Guy and tell everyone such perps (if I got the modern jargon right in this case) should be drawn and quartered in public (a bit of older jargon thrown in there) or whatever the reaction should be in front of a beer drinkin' peanut gallery on Opinion 250. (sorry for the generalizations, but that is what it reminds me of).

Instead, I decided to take note of the continual reference to the notion of RCMP units which have, predominately over the last 2 or so years, suddenly taken on the named appearance of "integrating" their actions with other units and teams working on other types of cases and in other geographic areas.

To me, that actually may have the makings of an interesting article or two - the shifting operational sands within the RCMP and whether it has increased the effectiveness and efficiency of the force.

In this particular case, how have the various crimes associated with Child Pornography changed with the maturing of the internet over the past 30 years, and how has the operation of the local, national and international police agencies changed to address those crimes.

Maybe there is a criminologist from SFU who might want to write a few articles on that.
Why not a criminologist from UNBC????
The Carthaginians didn't have a jail, so they just put one in a tight box that had nails sticking out all over the inside of the box and put their criminal in the box standing up... if one got tired and leaned over they would get the nails.... eventually they would die of lack of sleep. That would seem appropriate for this guy in the article above.
One more scum off the streets! Oh...no, wait! He is on the loose still.

I want the name of that sleezeball (assuming he was caught redhanded), so I can protect my own family, thank you very much.
Because UNBC does not have a criminology program while the SFU criminology program is one of the best in Canada.

http://www.sfu.ca/criminology

From the site:

"The School of Criminology is the largest in Canada and on the Pacific Rim and is one of the leading criminology and criminal justice teaching and research centres in the world. The School has a complement of 33 full time faculty members, over 900 declared majors, minors and honours students, and 125 graduate students at the M.A. and Ph.D. levels."

Further to that they have the International Cybercrime Research Centre which specializes in the areas of child pornography, criminal networks analysis, and an analysis of on-line sexual predators.

Thus they are likely to have an expert or two in this area to give some credible background information along the lines I am curious about.
Nice post eagleone ...... were those ARDOX spiral nails? .....

I mean, why do people make posts such as that? That is the level of thinking that comes out with these kind of stories. It really gives one an insight into the thinking of people.

Where is the meaningful discussion a story like this might elicit such as what are the indicators in your community of this kind of person living in the neighbourhood? Why did it take someone from another country to finger this individual. Why did the mother not see the signs if there are any in such cases? Why are priests protected by the Church? Why does the general public accept that attitude by a religious institution?

Why is this subject taboo other than to come forward with loathing of the individuals involved and macho threats of what one would do if they landed in their custody. Hollow threats accomplish nothing to address the situation we find ourselves in as a society.
Not sure whether the original story was covered on here.

I assume the local connection is part of that larger roundup.

http://www.suite101.com/content/the-profile-of-a-pedophile-a50767

Here are some of the characteristics of pedophiles and child molesters to look for:

1.Usually an adult male but some women also sexually abuse children
2.Often a child molestation victim themselves
3.Seeks out children of the age group they were when victimized
4.Usually married and hard-working

6.Usually well-liked and respected community members
7.Often well-educated and regular church-goers
8.Relates better with children than adults
9.Some prefer boys, some prefer girls
10.Usually prefers a specific age group of children
11.Takes and collects photographs of victims while dressed, nude or in sexual poses
12.Collects child-adult pornography

•Problems in school, poor grades
•Withdrawal from family, friends, or usual activities

•Eating disorders, eating very little or excessive eating
•Hostility or aggressive behaviors
•Drug or alcohol problems

gus: I hope this does not put a lot of really good, helpful and honestly caring people under suspicion. Seems there is a real lack of 'honest' foster parents(and that's not saying most of them aren't) and good babysitters. I just think we need more real foster parents, there is the need. I guess its like everything else, most have the best welfare of the children at heart, then there is the odd rotten one. I hear stories of some of them going far and beyond what is required of them and that I find really commendable.
There are some crimes which are unforgivable and sexual abuse of children is on that list. To my mind this is a crime as serious as murder, and should be punished accordingly.
Maybe we should all show up at the courthouse January 12 to see this fellow's arraignment and to identify him. If enough people showed up there and for his future court dates, maybe, just maybe, he might get a clue of just how offensive the public views this behaviour and get a little inkling of what he may face during his incarceration. Maybe he should put a millstone around his neck and throw himself into the sea.
Give more ... you wrote that you hoped this does not put a lot of really good, helpful and honestly caring people under suspicion.

I agree. You hit on the very reason I posted it, though. The individuals who do this are often pillars of our society. They are not typically some down and out druggie. They are more likely a next door neighbour in suburbia. So moms and dads need to be a bit vigilant.
Thank you Gus.
As a counsellor who has been working with sexually abused children and youth for the past 25 years, the general public would be shocked at who some of these perpetrators are. They are mostly men, professional, well educated, married with children, very engaged in the community in terms of volunteerism and certainly by reputation "outstanding" citizens. Wolves in sheep's clothing. These perpetrators often don't have a criminal record because their victims are too intimidated to pursue charges due to their status in the community.
I am also the coordinator of CASEY (Communities Against Sexual Exploitation of Youth). Sexual abuses of children and youth occur in all neighbourhoods in Prince George, not just the VLA. Economic and social status does not dictate or control if someone is a sexual predator. In fact, the higher a predator is on the social/economic ladder, the more they can hide. Sad but true.
As a follow up to my previous post, I need to clarify...
I personally am not singling out the VLA. This is a public perception that everything bad in PG happens in the VLA. And this is not the case at all. Sexual abuse/exploitation, organized crime, gang activity happens in EVERY NEIGHBOURHOOD in Prince George.
his name is robbie richardson i just heard on facebook :)
