Golden Sports Shop Suffers $100,000 Break In

Golden,B.C.- RCMP continue their investigation into a break and entry of a business in Golden that netted thieves over $100,000 dollars of merchandise.
 
The break in at Avalanche Safety Solutions occurred sometime between December 24th and December 27th.
 
The merchandize stolen was very specialized snowmobiling gear and included 100 avalanche backpacks, these back packs are worn by snowmobilers and inflate when caught in an avalanche.
 
 
 
Three different brands of the jackets were stolen with the majority being “snow pulse”. These have a value of $1200.00 each. The thieves failed to take the necessary nitrogen cylinders valued at $200.00 each.
 
Also taken was other avalanche safety gear such as (30) avalanche beacons of varying brands (Mamut, Pieps and BCA), SPOT's, probes, snow saws, extending rulers, etc were also stolen.
 
There is no information on a suspect vehicle at this time.

Thank you for making it public. Now if all the people that sells the Nitrogen cartridges turn around and ask for a serial # for the Packs they are going to attach them too, it will make it worthless.

The alternative is, if these units were to be used, wouldn't it have a GPS on them. Thus, as soon as it has a battery power put into them, wouldn't it activate the GPS? Would it have this technology?
No, the avy bags do not have GPS in them. Avalanche gear cannot rely on GPS technology because GPS does not work once its buried in snow. Thats why transceivers use a radio frequency to locate, not GPS coordinates.
Having said that, the SPOTS should have the identities noted so that no one can purchase a subscription for one but I am sure the store owners would be aware of that.
