Prince George, BC - Prince George Cougars goaltender James Priestner has been named the Western Hockey League’s nominee for CHL Goalie of the Week.

Priestner, a 19-year old from Edmonton, Alberta, posted a 2-0-0-0 record during the week of December 27 – January 2.  Priestner earned his second shut-out of the season on December 29, blocking all 22 shots he faced in a 5-0 victory over the Chilliwack Bruins, which is Priestner’s fourth career shut-out.  Priestner then stopped 21 of 23 shots on Sunday in the Cougars 5-2 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors.  Priestner is 12-9-2-0 on the season, posting a 3.46 goals against average and a save percentage of .889.

“I’ve been in the league a few seasons now and I’ve never been nominated before, so it’s a great honor,” said Priestner. “Most of the credit goes to the rest of the team.  It’s easier to play when the guys in front of me are sticking to defence first.”

Earlier this season, defenceman Sena Acolatse was named the CHL’s Player of the Week, after posting three goals and eight assists for 11 points in three games for the week of October 11-17.
