Over the past year and a half, Lyle Bradwell, considered by some in that community to be the “Great Volunteer” raised over $2,000 for the Willow River community park, by recycling bottles and cans.
Building on the example set by Lyle, Willow River applied for, and received a grant to build its own recycling centre, (see photo at right) which has now been built and is fully utilized by the community. Up until the construction of the recycling centre, people had to take all their recyclables into Prince George.
The new recycling centre is operated by volunteers, and all proceeds from recycling are put into the community park. Residents says the centre is a very positive addition to the community, but most of all, they want to say thanks to Lyle for getting it all underway.
