Barriere, B.C. -  A routine  road check on Friday night near Barriere netted lots of cash, and some  drugs.

Around 10:00 pm last Friday, members from Central Interior Traffic Services and the Barriere Detachment were conducting a road check on highway five.

A lone male drove up to the check and officers immediately noted an odour of marihuana. He was arrested and quickly turned over about 8 grams of marihuana bud.

Officers searched the vehicle and found 5 bundles of cash in a backpack. Another bundle was located under the driver’s seat. A 2nd bag of marihuana was located inside a compartment in the dash.

The bundles are made up of $20, $50 and $100 denominations, but most are $20s. In all, there was about $20 thousand in cash.

The driver, from Edmonton Alberta, faces charges of Possession of Property obtained by Crime. The cash could also be forfeited.  He will appear in Kamloops court in May.

Okay, so which community gets tagged with this to add to its crime quota to try to beat us in the title of number one?

Edmonton? Kamloops? Barriere?
Boy what a coincidence....a road block in the middle of nowhere, late at night. I wonder if they knew what kind of car to look for? ;-)
I think they may have known what route to look in.

I could see that any grow ops in the Kamloops region might have some distributors who transport it to places in Edmonton and northward to sell it there.

To give the RCMP probable cause to allow them to search is kind of stupid.
Any bald faced liars out there that will still claim that "crime does not pay?" Getting caught doesn't count.
Man, if they make the guy forfeit all that cash I could use some of it!
Again if they make it legal we won't have this issue and allow our government to legislate our marijuana and drug laws instead of the drug dealers. This won't happen because there is to much money at stake for both law enforcement and drug dealers. Go figure I am sure R.C.M.P will be asking for more money to hold more evidence in storage lockers for court.
That is a well traveled route for drug dealers and has been for years. We will probably read about this guy getting offed somewhere down the line as it was probably not his to start with
Random road checks are the act of a despotic government and society that tolerates them.

Give up an inch of your liberties and government... any government... will take more and more and more.

Count on it. Don't whine and complain later when government starts demanding random home checks... or maybe random checks of your person as you walk down the street.

Don't worry, it's coming and they'll have a great excuse why they need to be done then also, just as drunk drivers are the excuse now.

Full fascism is coming as long as the public keeps allowing fear of drunks and Cannabis to rule over love of liberty.

Just remember you were warned.

"Those that do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
Don't forget the firearms registry Kevin.
