Bell And Bond Don't Need To Declare Their Support For Any Liberal Leadership Candidate

Two key people remain to be heard from in the Liberal Leadership race, Pat Bell and Shirley Bond.
Both are considered by many to be high profile Cabinet Ministers in the current government and in all likelihood, should the Liberals form the next government, would again command a Cabinet post of some stature.
Bond will continue to sniff the wind, not from the point of view of who she will support but rather whether she will seek another term. Bond served the Campbell government well and it is no secret that she supported the manner in which things got done in the province.
Bond can walk away from the provincial scene knowing she has done her part. She is not what I would consider a big shooter. She doesn’t seek a lavish life style and that is borne out by the fact that when you see her and her family at the Cougars game, they are always sitting in the regular seats.
The lure of the Cabinet Minister's pay will not be a factor in her seeking re-election.
Bell on the other hand, would like to be around when the lumber tariffs with the USA are dropped because we no longer need to bend over at every beck and call for the Americans when it comes to selling our wood products.
He holds a safe seat for the work he has done on the lumber file with both the union and rank and file side of the political spectrum, and that will serve him well.
Bell will be in the next election and he will be appointed Minister of Forests, if the Liberals win that election likely to take place sometime this fall.
So they both sit back and see how the play unfolds before pledging their support to any candidate, they are in the driver’s seat so why would they be in any hurry?
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s’ opinion.

I believe when the current premier meets Steven Point to tender his resignation, the then current cabinet is automatically resigned. As the new premier is appointed, a new cabinet is also introduced and sworn in.
I expect the new cabinet to be similar to the existing, although the more senior positions are often a reflection of those who were "known" to the new premier in prior circumstances.
I would hope that both our local MLAs are safe with continuing to enjoy important cabinet positions. I think to do otherwise would not provide the same level of certainty about the local seats going into an election.
