Skidsteers Target of Rash of Thefts
By 250 News
Prince George, B.C.- With the recent snowfalls and contractors out clearing parking lots and neighbourhood driveways, Prince George RCMP are advising owners of “bobcats” or “skidsteers” ( similar to photo at right) to make sure the machines are safely locked up in a warehouse or shed at the end of the day.
Last year 10 of these machines were stolen and there were several attempted thefts.
This morning, two males were arrested in Prince George, trying to steal one of these machines from a residence in the 15th and Ahbau area. One male is a young offender, the other is 18 and well known to police.
The machines are easily transported with a ¾ ton or 1 ton pick up. If mounted on a trailer, they are very tempting to thieves. A new machine carries a price tag of $45 thousand dollars, and with a trailer, that can easily add another $8-$10 grand.
Police say the best policy is to make sure the machines are safe and secure out of sight, as thieves will drive through a locked compound with a stolen truck in order to steal the machines.
