Vancouver, B.C. - The company behind a gold mine near Wells will be able to construct a new road to access the site.
The BC Government has given the green light to Barkerville Gold Mines to build a new haul route between its bonanza ledge property and Highway 26 in the Cariboo.
Company officials say the access route is a positive development because it avoids impact to local roads and residents by bypassing both the community of Wells and the Barkerville Historic Town.
Company President and CE J. Frank Callaghan says, "We are all very pleased with how this has worked out. This is a win/win situation for industry, tourism and the local communities".
Logs cleared from the haul route will be sent to a demonstration sawmill project at Barkerville.
The company says road clearing will start up right away with Barkerville gold mines to start production at the Bonanza Ledge site following government approval.
Barkerville Gold Mines also operates the nearby QR Mine.
