Looks like the river ice might jam up again.
I am not surprised Eagle. I though the chanel was supposed to have ben dredged out but the last I seen all the sand, gravel and silt were still in place...I am curious to hear the incomplete truths that will fly when it does....
So, did anyone else try to get tickets for next December's World Juniors? That was a joke.
clarify...what World Juniors?
If the police want to hit their monthly targets really quick, they should pick a busy 4 or 3 way stop intersection. I see countless people running stop signs at the 10th and carney intersection, the westwood intersection and the one over by Walmart too....Just a thought
The 1980s song Money for Nothing by the British rock band Dire Straits has been deemed unacceptable for play on Canadian radio.

In a ruling released Wednesday, the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council says the song contravenes the human rights clauses of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' Code of Ethics and Equitable Portrayal Code.

The song's lyrics are written from the point of view of a working-class man watching music videos and commenting on what he sees. To achieve the effect of such a layman making such casual everyday commentary envying the superior lives of rock stars,

From the Brothers In Arms Album

I want my MTV

Now look at them yo-yo's that's the way you do it
You play the guitar on the MTV
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Money for nothin' and your chicks for free
Now that ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Lemme tell ya them guys ain't dumb
Maybe get a blister on your little finger
Maybe get a blister on your thumb

We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour TV's

(See the little faggot with the earring and the makeup
Yeah buddy that’s his own hair
That little faggot got his own jet airplane
That little faggot he’s a millionaire)

Gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
Gotta move these colour TV's

I shoulda learned to play the guitar
I shoulda learned to play them drums
Look at that mama, she got it stickin' in the camera
Man we could have some
And he's up there, what's that? Hawaiian noises?
Bangin' on the bongoes like a chimpanzee
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Get your money for nothin' get your chicks for free

We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchens deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour TV's

Look a' here
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
You play the guitar on your MTV
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Money for nothin' and your chicks for free
Money for nothin' and chicks for free

Money for nothin' and your chicks for free

Look at that, look at that

Money for nothin' and your chicks for free
I want my, I want my, I want my MTV
Money for nothin' and chicks for free

(Fade)
I want my, I want my, I want my MTV

The world junior hockey tournament mythoughts. Like the one that just ended in Buffalo.
whoawhoa: So by your comment you are seeing people drive to fast for the conditions of the road.. again.. People should slow down, the roads are snow and ice covered. We live in the North.. and I don't believe there is a quota for tickets they are to restrictive.. what are they suppose do when they hit the quota.. go for coffee.. ya, but they can't do that - because people are driving to fast and crashing into each other.. just have to look in the local paper to see the carnage on our streets.. I say double the amount of people assigned to the traffic division in this city.. People might then get it - they need to slow down.. The ambulance service would save money.. the hospitals would save money.. ICBC would save money on repairing vehicles.. Oh ya we as consumers of ICBC Insurance policies would save money also.. What a novel idea it just might work.. just a thought
Until they make an IQ test mandatory for drivers the carnage will continue.
Well we are heading into the new year with some positives and negatives.

Positives;

1.Terrane Mine should begin construction and production.

2. The price of lumber is moving up, and housing starts in the USA are moving up somewhat. This will mean profits for BC Mills. Lumber exports to USA will increase in 2011 and probably decrease to China because of the Chitty price.

3. Huge expansion taking place at Endako Mines. Approx 400 trailers positioned at the old Lejac School Property (Ft Fraser) for workers. This will provide employment for a large amount of workers for the next few years.

4. Money being spent of site improvements etc; in Kitimat for the eventual building of the new ingot plant. If this plant goes forward they will require huge numbers of workers for the next 5 years.

5. Highway 37 will probably get the go-ahead, which will provide employment opportunities.

6. Terrace BC will probably become the major distribution centre for the Hiway 37, Kitimat, and Pr Rupert area. Pr George will look after Endako, Mackenzie, (Terrane)

7. New Cancer Clinic, Police Station, Boundry Road, Community Energy System will provive contruction jobs etc;

8. Telus call centre on 2nd Avenue should open and create some new jobs. (150??)

Negatives.

1. Once the new Kitimat ingot plant is built they will require less workers, and there will be a permanent lay-off of approx 400 people.

2. Kemess mines will close down sometime this year and lay off 250 workers (more or less). Some of these will go to work for Terrane, however overall there will not be a net gain in mining jobs in that area.

3. No big project on the books for Prince George except those funded by tax dollars. Expect some significant increases in your taxes.

4. Although there will be some construction going on at the Airport, ie; Fuel Storage Tanks, Small Warehouse, and perhaps some light industrial buildings, these are basically relocated projects, from other Industrial areas. The Airport Authority was supposed to start paying lease payments to the Federal Government this year. I suspect that we will be hearing some announcement that an arrangement has been made to extend the free rent for a few more years because the Authority has no money. Will we get some Cargo Jets this year??? I havent heard anything to indicate that we will.

5. With the take over of Zellers by target stores, will we lose a store?? Who knows.

6. Seems like the enrolments for undergraduate students at UNBC is declining, It is hard to tell for sure because the last figures they show on their website of for 2009. However indications are there has been a decrease.

7. Schools continue to see a decrease in enrolments, and people are still leaving Prince George, population remains static at best.

8. Every possible tax that you can think of will go up. Gas, Hydro, Medical, Carbon, Home, Garbage, Water, etc; etc; etc; This money is required to pay for the Police Station, Winter Games, Boundry Road Cut-off, Community Energy System, to name but a few.

9. Clear Lake Sawmill shut down Jan. 1st. Will these jobs be replaced by the re-opening of Rustads??? Who knows, at this point it doesnt seem likely.

So at the end of the day we will probably be able to maintain the status quo, with the exception of huge increases in taxes, and therein lies the problem.

Time for Connally to retire from Hockey.
He always seems to be hurt or not producing so why have him on the team.
He should get a real job.
"So at the end of the day we will probably be able to maintain the status quo, with the exception of huge increases in taxes, and therein lies the problem."
--------------------------------------------

And don't expect any solutions to it from any of those currently running to be leader of either the Liberals or the NDP.

Governments already take, on average, about half of everyone's annual income in taxes now ~ yet each year THEY'RE further in debt than they were the last.

We're left the other half to provide for ourselves all the things the government doesn't ~ yet each year, on average, WE'RE further in debt than we were the last, too.

Now how can that continue? And, more importantly, WHY SHOULD IT EVER BE THAT WAY IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Forgot the huge project at Northwood Pulp this year. $112 Million project.

I drove by the new Cancer Clinic last night, and although it was dark, I am sure that I noticed that they are using metal studs in this building.

Seems to me when we used metal studs in the New Duchess Park School, Pat Bell said he was embarressed, and that they would watch this feature in the future. Well the future is here.

How can we sell the concept of building with lumber to other Countries, when we dont do it ourselves???

Answers please.
Given the weight of the equipment that will be placed in the new Cancer Center they can't make it out of wood.
getagripreally says..."whoawhoa: So by your comment you are seeing people drive to fast for the conditions of the road.. again.."

Actually what whoawhoa is saying is, people are not stopping at stop signs. That is nothing new anywhere or at anytime of the year and road conditions have nothing to do with it.

I was hoping to read an update on the child pornography case from December. The original article said he would be going to court on Jan 12th.
getagripreally - Yes, I do see people driving too fast for road conditions. I see people tailgating, changing lanes quickly, weaving in and out of traffic, people on cell phones while smoking and drinking coffee and people running stop signs. There are so many things that other people do on a daily basis there are far too many issues to list. The stop sign issue I thought I would bring up today simply because on my way to work I saw 3 people run stop signs. One person stopped at a 4 way stop and went on their turn and the person right behind him/her followed the leading car through the stop sign on to where ever. I would like to get home to my family safely after work. People that think that their life will be over if their late 5 minutes think again. My life may be over if you run that damn stop sign and hit me. If you are not confortable driving in these conditions or can not do so safely STAY OFF THE ROADS!!!! And also maybe you should consider moving some where else with less snow. Winter driving is part of our reality up north. I have been driving here for almost 30 years and the weather has never been an issue, take it easy and use your head.
So let's see, we are all in agreement then - people are in there own little world, indestructible, as they are confined to approx 2000 pounds of plastic and metal on average and don't care about the rest of us.. I agree totally .. get more RCMP members in the traffic division in this city
oblivious
The contemporary affliction.
i laughed at a moron who slide through a stop sign cause of speed and the goof gave me the finger ! hahaha ya know one day i might just try roadrage !
How about the guy in Kelowna who gets kicked in the face by the RCMP member and got caught on camera. Song and dance from his superior about a domestic dispute. Seems the only people who know about the domestic dispute are the RCMP.
I wonder when a law will be passed making it unlawful for the RCMP to be filmed while performing their duties.
Is there any reason people can't or don't turn their lights on their vehicles? It's not a difficult task and it certainly makes it easier to see your back end in this snow.
@faxman on World Junior tickets.
Yeah we entered the so-called "priority" draw for tickets. 186,700+ other people did too. We weren't successful but I wonder how many tickets/packages will be out there closer to the event. I was surprised that they said if your name was picked there would be no limit on how many packages you could order. I also didn't like the delay between the drawing and notification dates. Not sure what the purpose of that was. On the bright side, the email did suggest that I may have a further opportunity to purchase should tickets become available! lol
Resident I wonder if you got kicked in the face man if you were to give that cop a big kiss as well.
Dire Straights rocks and who cares what some queer thinks. It was hit longer then most of these people been a live anyways. Damn babies anymore.
Anyone else see the noon news on GlobalBC?

There was a pothole on some road down in Vancouver that garnered almost instantaneous attention by police and patching crews this morning.

Up here we live with the same potholes for weeks and months before they are repaired.
Wheres our GlobalBC coverage? Better yet wheres our instantaneous pothole repair service when we need them?

OOPS! silly me, I forgot up here we are beyond Hope!
@Banner

I was picked in the priority draw and given a time, id and password to get tickets. Half an hour before by scheduled time I logged in and was notified that Calgary was sold out and that there were only single seats left for Edmonton. Of course, when my to buy time arrived there was nothing available.
For most women it's all about money with them. Well I have an income. As long as you can look after yourself then that is what matters. Taking my inventory shows how much of an idiot you are.
yup, dragonmaster, I heard that story.
My comment to spouse was-- that's just driver training for moving up north!
Wow faxman, I was bummed I didn't get drawn, but I would be royally pissed if that happened to me. What were they doing indeed. Not sure what you can do about it,but I was amazed that 4 different sets of season ticket holders had first priority and I heard that more than half the tickets were spoken for by them.
I am guessing each venue has its own rules and there is no higher "authority" to complain to. It's too bad that the real fans are treated this poorly.
