Prince George, B.C.- It is back to the bargaining table on Monday for  the union representing about 3,000 mechanical and other workers at  CN and they will enter that session armed with a strike mandate.

Workers have voted overwhelmingly in favour to strike if necessary to back their opposition to demands  for contract  concessions.

The current contract with the CN members of the Canadian Auto Workers union ran out at the end of December.

The union has set a strike deadline of Jan. 25 at 12:01 a.m.

CP workers  are in a similar situation and their negotiators are  huddling in Montreal and expected to continue their talks through the weekend.  CP’s workers are prepared to strike February 8th.

Management at both railways  say they are optimistic a settlement can be reached with  their respective unions without any disruption to the railways.

I'm not sure why I have to pay union dues anymore. I have to find out what my union is up to from the local news website rather from the union.
Thats not a good thing to hear about union issues from sources outside your union.
you need to ask your union that
Without Unions we would be just like Mexico, The only difference would be that they would have to give us boots for the winter.
I would suggest the best method of dispensing wealth and determining value is merit (ie a meritocracy based on values such as commitment and hard work).

I would suggest that unions do not consider merit. They replace merit with union membership first and then seniority second.

A union suggests that a senior union member is the top dog, lazy and useless or not.

The real world suggests that a hardworking individual is the top dog. Union membership or not.

Do we really wonder why unions AND the industries that the union parasites are attached too are failing? Really?
Hell I have never been apart of a union, I make more than most union workers and I don't have to bitch and complain because 'the man' is screwing me again cause I didn't graduate!

Try hard work and education you would be amazed at how far you can go!
Mexico has unions too, and from all signs they are just as corrupt as ours here.

A Union is simply a monopoly 'labor corporation' that attempts to exact a higher price for its 'product' from the public by making it scarce, i.e. calling a strike. End the ability of OTHER corporate monopolies to do exactly the same thing and that aspect of the problem is solved.
